Alot has changed & know that growth is happening. Wanted to share some things Ive learned along the way - Hence 'School of Life'
Started my 2nd LLC, trying to do it right the second time around, not that the 1st wasnt worthies, but I had absolutely know idea what I was doing or a plan for where I was going. Now that I have experienced, I am considering myself a bit more 'seasoned'.
after forming my LLC with the Secretary of State with the help of my CPA, my first order of business was opening a business account. I chose to open mines with a black banking institution ( cause thats my prerogative ) then on to registering my business with Duns & Bradley number which is a number that is used much like a credit score to track the validity and most times credit worthiness of a business.
Did you know that registering your business with a DUNS number is free?
I didn't at first. Glad I know & now am able to share with YOU!
S/O to my business advisor who pointed out this free service during a business course she was teaching for Columbia SBDC before she was even my advisor!
Lets get into it, it super simple and will leave you saying " That's it?"
Things you'll need : documents & information pertaining to your business
First I visited https://www.dnb.com/duns-number/get-a-duns
input my info to make sure a duns wasnt already available for my business , once I confirmed it wasnt, I went on to start the process of getting my own. Now all the info entered was pretty straight forward. Something important to note was making sure that your business name is 100% correct. to be on the safe side, I would copy exactly how it appears on your EIN letter or Article of Organization as to not take any chances.
Overall the hardest part was determining the "Business Description" since I am starting this business to sell a product that made myself and it doesn't fit into a clear cut industry, as when selecting this for your business you have to make a selection of descriptions that popup as you begin typing. This part honestly took me the longest time, but after I found a description that I felt best suited me and my business I was ready to go.
The last step was uploading my documents. The site gave a list of acceptable documents, but I just went with my EIN letter from the IRS & article of Organization from the Secretary of State.
... Now we wait, the site disclaims that it will take 30d days or less to receive a DUNS number via email , but I am personally in NO RUSH..
Hope this helped anyone out there on their Entreprenuerial journey and are setting the proper foundations to not only grow, but FLOURISH 🪴
until next time
CTYLR.
